Dr. Blackwood received his Doctorate in Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry. Dr. Blackwood also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Pacific University.

Following graduation Dr. Blackwood served in the Army being stationed 1 year with the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and 3 years in Frankfurt, Germany with the 10th General Dispensary. Throughout his career in Optometry, Dr. Blackwood has served the Colorado Optometric Association in numerous positions including President from 1988-1989.

Since graduating in 1972 and spending the next four years as an optometrist in the US Army Dr. Forrest has been in private practice with Dr. Clark Blackwood in Longmont Colorado.

He is a member in good standing in the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association where he has served as a trustee, the legislative chairman, president elect, president, and past president.
